Elder McKay Arave Quinn: Week 50

Familia!

All is well here in the Mexico City South Mission! I thought it would be a little different this week training a new secretary, but president hasn't got around to calling him into the offices, so for now its still just Elder Frazier and me holding down the fort... its all good though. We love what we do, and are just having fun... and we are baptising! Y____ (lluvia or Rain) was baptized Saturday! It was an amazing baptismal service with a large attendance, members and nonmembers! She was so excited! She gave an incredible testimony after and everyone was shocked! She has been coming to church for quite some time now, but is very quiet. She seemed to really open up in her testimony and tell her whole conversion and then her testimony of the gospel. She has already prepared family names with the other recent convert (W____) and they are going on the temple trip to Veracruz tomorrow! They are really excited. Also two young men preparing for the mission are going to the temple today! It is a happy time for them. We have been able to help them prepare for their missions and answer questions about the mission and everything. They are brothers, one is going to Houston, and the other to Fresno! We have also been working really a lot con V_____ G_______ for her baptism the 7 th.... she wants it so bad and cannot wait for the day to come. She will be a good example for her family, and they will for sure follow her example to be baptized as well.

We are preparing for the visit of Elder Johnson, the Mexico area president, so presidente has asked us to do some reports. Today we did a report on the baptisms of this year and we had to figure out how many were from member references.... that took a lot of phone calls .) The other report that we are doing is the number of inactive members that have gone to church three or more times this year... in the whole mission (6 stakes) we had 716 inactives come to church three or more times! It is really interesting to see the numbers and do these reports. We are progressing mucho as a mission... its great.

This week I had one of the longer days of my mission... I got up at 3AM to go to the airport, but by 3:30 the taxi that we had contracted hadn't showed up so Elder Torres and I left the house and went out walking the streets of the ciudad de Mexico at 3:30 AM! hahaha it was weird... but we found a taxi after walking for about 10 min. So we got to the airport and checked in super fast, and then came back to the house by 5:45 before anyone in the house had gotten up,.... so we went back to sleep for a bit... hahaha CRAZY! Then we studied, went to the offices, ate and work like normal... but then at 6 we went to the temple to go to the doctor for elder Frazier (they cut off his ingrown toenail) We got home right at 9 and we were dead! So tired!

In the mission we just instituted a new standard to always have a BOM in the hand, so that people can automatically see what we do, and we can talk about our purpose! It has been working really well for us, we hope to see more results this week too! The Lord is blessing us with many opportunities, it is amazing to see his hand in this work. My testimony of the atonement is growing stronger and stronger everyday! Read the 3rd article of faith!

Is it about the atonement or obedience? It is about OBEDIENCE!

As we are obedient to the laws and ordinances of the gospel we are accepting the atonement. The atonement was already completed, Christ did his part, all we need to do is be obedient to accept the atonement. I thought that was so cool. Obedience is a law that existed before the creation of the earth!
